Tips For Teaching Classroom Safety to Kids

Teachers are tasked with having an "in loco parentis" status for the duration of the school day. This means that they are responsible for the safety and general welfare of their students. Should a child be placed at risk or injured while in the care of the school or individual teacher; the institution's management, the education department and even the teacher could be sued for negligence.

Apart from the threat of legal action, teachers obviously are concerned about the safety of their charges. It is wise when deciding collectively on classroom management rules, that teachers include safety rules in the discussion. Once the rules have been drawn up, they need to be posted on notice boards and the students need to be reminded of the importance of the rules every now and again or as needed.

There are a number of safety issues which need to be considered in a typical classroom. One must firstly warn the children of the dangers of sharp pencils and mathematics instruments with sharp points. It must be clear that no child may point a potentially dangerous item at another child. When walking with sharp instruments, including scissors, learners must walk with the sharp end pointing downwards towards the floor.

Tips For Teaching Classroom Safety to Kids

Teachers must remind students that just as they should never run with an object like a lollipop in their mouths, so too should they not walk around with a pencil or pen in their mouths. Explain carefully to the children what would happen to the pencil, for example, should they trip or be tripped and fall face downwards onto the floor.

Teachers need to anticipate the silly pranks that students engage in such as pea shooting and pulling chairs out from underneath their peers as the child begins to sit down. The dangers of eye injuries and possible spinal cord injuries of these two "jokes" must be pointed out carefully and a penalty attached to their occurrence in the classroom, should anyone dare to disobey the ban on these dangerous activities.

Students also need to be taught how to protect themselves from the myriad germs and disease and childhood illnesses to which they are exposed on a daily basis. The habit of covering ones mouth if one coughs and sneezing into the crook of ones elbow or a tissue must be taught to all students. In line with minimizing the spread of seasonal influenza and colds, students must be reminded to keep washing their hands after touching communal items in the classroom.

Another obvious safety rule in the classroom must be that every student washes his or her hands after going to the bathroom and before eating. Teachers must discourage students from sharing juice with others who drink from the same bottle and the like. If a child wishes to share a sandwich for example, he should break off a piece and hand this piece to his friend.

Teachers need to be alert to the universal precautions adopted with regard to HIV/AIDS too. Children need to understand the potential danger of touching another person's blood or body fluids such as vomit. Teachers can set the example, by donning regulation latex gloves when they deal with playground injuries. No teacher should ever assume that a child must be HIV negative by virtue of the fact that most students are HIV negative. As a precaution, the universal law states that every person, regardless of their status should be treated as if they were HIV positive.

Teachers need to be alert too to skin rashes which are potentially contagious such as scabies and ringworm. If there is any doubt, the student's parents should be contacted to take their child to the doctor for treatment. Children with contagious illnesses and rashes should be kept at home until a doctor clears their return to school.

Teachers should insist that all children get into the habit of covering open sores, to protect themselves and others. All teachers should have at least a basic First Aid kit in the classroom and children should see it being used. Students will quickly learn from the teacher's instructions and example to apply pressure to a bleeding wound. They will know too to run the wound under cold water, apply a disinfectant or similar germicidal cream and cover the wound with a plaster or bandage.

The most stringent rules for safety will probably need to be exercised in the playground area. Rules pertaining to swings, jungle gyms and see-saws need to be carefully explained, applied and followed. If any child violates a playground safety rule, she should be given a suitable punishment such as a time out inside the classroom while the others play outdoors. Children need to be taught to be alert to the dangers in the playground, so that safety first rules become a habit.

It is essential that teachers also teach their students about school evacuation and emergency procedures. If you have a younger class, you could organize an outing to the local fire brigade depot and get the firemen to explain procedures to follow if there is a fire. If the school Principal is lax about fire drills you could institute a few practices of your own once or twice a quarter. Safety issues such as remain calm, walk quickly in single file to the assembly point designated for roll call must be drilled so students are not caught off guard in the event of a fire or similar emergency requiring evacuation.

Teachers need to extend safety awareness beyond the classroom and playground. It is imperative that teachers cover the risks presented by talking to strangers, revealing personal information on M Xit and Face Book. Children who have undergone some awareness training at school will be more alert to the dangers to which they are exposed in modern society.

Another important safety procedure beyond the classroom that teachers should cover as part of the curriculum is that of road safety. It is important that students hear the same messages from their parents and teachers and that they realize the importance of pedestrian and cyclist safety, for their own sake.

Teachers need to understand the incredible influence they have over their students, especially younger classes. Classroom safety tips and general physical safety rules are imperative to keep students safe inside and outside the classroom.

Toddlers and Teens Have Plenty in Common

Raising toddlers is great training for raising teenagers as developmentally both groups have a great deal in common.

First thing tots and teens have in common - both stages of development involve enormous brain reconstruction.

The use it or lose it principle applies in both stages. I'll explain. The brain of a one year old and a thirteen year old are similar in that they overproduce synapses or connecting points of the brain. The next few years of both stages is similar in that the synapses are pruned back leaving the most used synapses in tact. These remaining synapses are then coated in myelin to maximise their performance.

Toddlers and Teens Have Plenty in Common

Here is the important bit for parents. The activities kids do in these stages become hard-wired. That's why, for instance, the early years are the prime time for learning multiple languages. The same principle applies for teenagers who learn a complex sport - the skills learned become hard-wired for life. That's why when you learn a sport as a kid and you'll always be able to play that game even after a prolonged break.

The message for parents of tots and teens is the same. There is a window of opportunity open and not to be wasted. For parents of tots this means providing heaps of natural interactions with their social environments, mainly peers and parents. For parents of teenagers this translates into getting them off the couch and away from the computer and into healthy, social pursuits. Don't let them be coach potatoes at this stage.

Second thing tots and teens have in common - they often push for independence.

Toddlers will often push their parental boundaries. The easy compliant tot suddenly says no to bedtime and becomes picky with food. Let's see if I can push a few boundaries and have a bit of fun is the go.

Teens play the same game. Many parents find that their once pleasant, easy-going child suddenly becomes morose, moody and challenging. He or she begins pushing boundaries in ways they haven't before. What is going on thinks a bewildered parent? Well the same underlying issues as they may have faced with a toddler - the push for some independence and a greater say in the way they are raised. Now what you both fight about is different. "Don't play on the couch" is replaced by "Come home on time!" Parents need to hold their ground with teens just as they did if they had an unruly toddler. This early training is excellent grounding for a parent.

Third thing tots and teens have in common - the challenging stages don't last.

Toddlers eventually stop saying "No" to every request. Often this is replaced with "Why?" Teenagers' vocabulary, which often shrinks to 3 words - 'whatever' (which means yes), 'asif' (which means no) and 'maybe' (which means 'no, but I am willing to negotiate a deal that suits me!') - eventually returns to its full 1,000+ word range. You just have to hang in there and wait.

I can go on with the similarities but I think you get the point. The early years of a child's life provides a great training ground and preparation for raising adolescents. learning In both stages it is important for parents add a few minutes to every interaction with children, have a sense of humour, work with a partner (if willing, able and available), make sure you have firm backbone and kind heart, and take a regular break from the kids to help you keep perspective and stay fresh.

Cheap Halloween Party Ideas For Kids, Adults, and Teenagers

Have Halloween At Home

Lots of us would like to keep our family and friends close to home on Halloween. We all love the traditions of this holiday, and probably have great memories about it, but these days it seems better to keep our kids and teens off the street. I have had a great time throwing Halloween parties for children, adults, and teenagers. Everybody remembered the fun for a long time, and built new memories they could pass on.

Set The Mood - When your guests arrive, make sure they are immersed in the holiday spirit (lol) right away. Dim lights and use candles or powered lanterns for mood lighting. Having to pass through a decorative spider web to enter will be lots of fun too.

Cheap Halloween Party Ideas For Kids, Adults, and Teenagers

Halloween Movies - A rented movie can help almost any party. You can keep it on the tv, but make sure the sound is low enough so other partiers can chat. Choose your movie to fit your guests. You can find some great cartoons for young children and zombie movies for teens. Even we older people enjoy doing the Time Warp Again too! Rocky Horror is great for young adults, or for adults who were young once!

The Haunted Relics - You can make a small haunted house in a hallway or bedroom. A dark room, some spooky sounds, and scary pictures lit by black light ca make this fun for everybody. Appoint a guide to lead the victims (guests).

The Scary Contests - Be sure and judge costumes. You can provide small prizes like bags of candy or themed cups. For younger kids, I would make enough categories so everybody can win, but adults and teens should be able to compete for a couple of prizes. You probably know that children love prize bags, but teens and adults seem to like them too.

Ghoulish Games - The easiest game for almost any party can be adapted to yours. Buy a pack of sticky notes and write the name of some creature on each one. You could use The Great Pumpkin, The Mummy, and Harry Potter for example. Each guest gets one paper stuck on their back until they can gather enough hints to guess it correctly. This makes a great icebreaker, and it is really cheap to do!

Frugal Halloween Party Planning - You can throw an affordable party without making it seem cheap at all.

You can find some great decorations, costume ideas, and slimy stuff for a haunted house in the dollar or discount store.

Do not be afraid to allow your guests to contribute, especially if they ask. You can delegate sodas, snacks, or bags of candy for prizes to any guests who seem willing to contribute. In fact, you can even make another contest out of this! Your friends will probably be happy to compete for the Best Halloween Treat competition. Be sure to award that one early before the food is all gone.

I think that Halloween is so popular because it celebrates our imagination, and you can certainly use yours to throw an inexpensive party that your guests will love.

Children and Divorce - Help My 2 Year Old Through Divorce

Children and divorce are two things that over 50 percent of all parents have to deal with. Getting through a divorce is going to be hard on kids no matter if they are two or twenty-two, however, there are steps that you can take as a parent to make their transition easier to do. The steps you take will need to be age appropriate and child appropriate, as no two kids are the same and no two kids respond to the challenges of divorce in the same manner.

Help My 2 Year Old Through Divorce - Step No. 1: Tell Them What's Going On

While a two year old may not understand what a divorce is, they need to be told about what is going on. This discussion needs to be direct but age appropriate. You can tell your two year old that mommy and daddy are not going to be living together any more and that things are going to be changing over the next few months. You will also want to make sure you tell your two year old that you both still love him or her and that he/she will still be a special part of both of your lives.

Children and Divorce - Help My 2 Year Old Through Divorce

Help My 2 Year Old Through Divorce - Step No. 2: Keep Your Routines

To help alleviate the stress that comes with having to deal with the changes that are indicative of divorce, you need to try and keep your daily routines for things like waking up and going to bed. These routines will help your two year old to know what to expect each day regardless if they are at your house or at their other parent's house..

Help My 2 Year Old Through Divorce - Step No. 3: Remember to Have Fun

While a divorce is a time when you are going to feel miserable, you can help your two year old to make it through the divorce healthier and happier by setting aside time each week to just have fun together. Go to the park, play games, read stories, go for a bike ride or do some other activity that they like to do. This will help to relieve stress and to reinforce your bond.

Help My 2 Year Old Through Divorce - Step No. 4: Argue in Private

One mistake that parents make when they are getting divorced is to argue with their soon-to-be ex-spouse in front of their kids. When you have a young child, like a two year old, you need to do your best to keep them out of the firing line when it comes to your arguments and negative feelings towards your ex. Try not to discuss the divorce with your ex in front of them and try not to talk badly about them in front of your kids.

Planning a Fall Festival in Children's Ministry

It is that time of year when many churches begin to think about Halloween alternatives to attract kids and parents to Christ instead of the evil traditions rooted in what seems to be a fun holiday for kids everywhere. Why not consider a Fall Festival? It is all the rage these days for churches who want to provide a fun environment where kids can still celebrate the season, but with a twist on the harvest.

Planning a Fall Festival can be anywhere from simple to quite elaborate. It depends on your church's style and personal belief system. One thing that all Fall Festivals have in common is the fact that it celebrates the harvest and the bountiful life God has given us through His Son, Jesus Christ. In fact, some churches call it a Harvest Festival instead.

Activities to do at a Fall Festival many times include carnival games. Simply ask your congregation to donate bags of candy throughout the months of September and October as prizes for winning the games. Just make sure the candies are individually wrapped.

Planning a Fall Festival in Children's Ministry

Silent auctions or door prize drawings are also a big hit at Fall Festival celebrations. Donations for prizes can be made by local businesses and individuals, and some churches will make a small budget for these items as well. Kids and adults love to participate in silent auctions and door prizes.

Another favorite activity that kids and adults like to participate in is a Cake Walk. It is musical chairs, and the winning seat gets to pick a delicious homemade cake from a table of entries to take home as the prize. Most churches have expert cake bakers who are more than happy to donate to the cause.

Instead of encouraging kids to come dressed in any costume, you can hold a Bible costume contest for different age groups. This gives children a chance to dress up, but as a biblical character, and then be entered in a contest to win a cool prize. Again, prizes can be simple and come as donations from area businesses or individuals.

A pie judging contest is also a favorite at Fall Festivals. Pick two or three people from your congregation, usually the minister and one or two other elders, to be the judges. They taste each pie and decide who has baked the best pie. Then give the winner a ribbon for their baking abilities. The only stipulation for entering a pie for judging is that it has to be homemade. No store bought entries here!

As you can see, planning a Fall Festival takes time to think things through. You will need a planning committee. In some churches, it is the Children's Ministry committee who gets to plan all the fun. Other churches assign a Bible study group or Bible class to plan the fun events. The important thing is that the children are offered a fun time without missing any parts of Halloween traditions. In fact, their memories of a church Fall Festival will have many more happy returns in their life than you could ever imagine.

Free Schools for Troubled Teens

Parents are not at all happy to see their children destroying their own lives. Troubled teens often find success through a structured, emotional growth in a school environment. Therefore parents send their children to boarding or military style schools where all the programs are designed to help the troubled teens. But, it can be difficult for the family to have a teen move to a boarding or military school facility. As a result, many parents choose the service of alternative schools, such as free schools for troubled teens.

Free schools for troubled teens are non-hierarchical, non-institutional forms of learning which share skills, information and knowledge on a community basis. A free school for troubled teens has programs specially designed to assist the troubled teens to receive an education. In general, a free school is an attempt of individuals who act collectively and autonomously to generate educational opportunities and skill-sharing within their communities.

These free schools are dedicated to social change through free education and community building. They encourage self-reliance, critical consciousness, and personal development, living connections between themselves and their community. A free school often operates without any business propositions. The schools usually have no single street addresses. The venues of their classes and meetings may be a living room, a park, or any other community space.

Free Schools for Troubled Teens

The schools are able to design programs to help the teens deal with the problems that they face. They deal with teenagers who have social and emotional problems that are reflected in their behavior. Their course programs are also designed to provide physical and spiritual guidance for this group of teens. Most of them are equipped to deal with teens that have ADD or ODD. These schools also operate rehabilitation programs that help the teens to become drug and alcohol free.

All free school teen classes are conducted away from all types annoying things which influence these troubled teens and they learn how to rely on themselves to become self-sufficient. There are many volunteer opportunities available like design work, outreach, fund-raising, special events, or technical support.

Statistics on Obesity in Children - 3 Very Shocking and Surprising Statistics!

With the growing rate of obesity in America, it is very important to understand what exactly is causing our children to become obese. Here are three shocking statistics on obesity in children:

1) - Thirty percent of kids today eat fast food... Every single day of the year! With fast food chains lurking around every corner of our streets, it's no wonder why so many of our children find convenience in satisfying their hunger by visiting these nearby "fat food" dealers.

2) - Studies show that obese children are four times as likely to suffer from depression that their classmates of normal weight. Obese children are bullied around all the time. It's not fair. Children who are obese sometimes even develop social anxiety disorders around their weight, and have a hard time even going out of the house. It's important to let our overweight children know that they are loved despite of their obesity.

Statistics on Obesity in Children - 3 Very Shocking and Surprising Statistics!

3) - Twenty percent of preschool children are obese, and thirty percent of children as a whole are obese. Studies show that by 2010, nearly fifty percent of children will be obese! Children don't always know how to eat and exercise healthily. They need to be shown by their parents that exercising and eating well can not only be good for their health, but can also be very fun!

As you can see, it is so very important that we take care of our children's health now before they develop the horrible side effects of being obese, such as hypertension, high cholesterol, joint diseases, and depression, to name a few.

Teen Pregnancy Solutions

We are living in a world today, a world with innovation and liberty. It is a fact that the new generation is always on the stage of discovery. They tend to try different things especially when it comes to sex; we must admit that teens are curious about it. Statistics say that the rate of birth in teenagers has risen to 200 percent since the 60's, and one out of four women gets pregnant at the age of 18 and half of it will be pregnant by the age of 21. If this is the case, parents must be cautious in educating their children about teen pregnancy.

Reasons of pregnancy:

Experts say that several reasons affects teen pregnancy. One of the main reasons is because they believe that the baby will bring changes in their lives like having some friends or getting closer to their families and their boyfriend. But what they don't know is that having a baby adds more responsibility to their life. Pregnancy is a life changing experience. Parents must tell their children that pregnancy is not just a game of playhouse; they must instill in their kids that pregnancy is not a solution to a problem, or should be used as an excuse for rebellion. Pregnancy will change their lives for a lifetime.

Teen Pregnancy Solutions

Effects to a country:

Many countries have been promoting contraceptives and safe sex for teens, largely because of the astounding inflation in population rate these past decades. One good example of this is the Red China. They implemented the two child policy because of over population. If a citizen is expecting a third child, the mother is obliged to abort the baby or they will be executed for violating the law. That is why authorities in China are usually one of the top rated users of pregnancy test like the elisa kits test to determine pregnancy among its women early on.

Statistics say that population in China has risen to 2 billion in the 90s alone. The government is in the verge of scarcity of resources and famine if this would continue. It is believe that, if all people in China will jump together, it would cause an earthquake in the Pacific and may cause catastrophe to nearby countries. A seemingly hilarious idea, but would actually cause serious impact if taken seriously.

Solution:

Teenagers are always curious when it comes to sex. They would do anything just to ease their selfish pleasure and we cannot hold them back if they are determined to do it. Teenagers are usually common buyers of pregnancy kits or elisa kits. At such an early age, they already know what to do and what tests to perform when suspecting pregnancy. So, before innocent flirting and youthful adventures lead to pregnancy, parents should make them understand the responsibilities and consequences of pre-marital sex.

Many Christians are against sex education because they claim that it is immoral to teach young children about sex. This practice will lose their innocence if they would be exposed to such immorality. In my own opinion, sex education must be taught at home and in schools. It is the best place for such topics where teenagers would best grasp the underlying cost and gain sex.

Take note that abortion is not a solution to teen pregnancy. If you would know the side effects of abortion you would think twice before doing it. It is said that abortion can poison the mother if some parts of the child that has been aborted is left inside the mother's womb.

I would take the big NO to abortion because it not only unethical but against morality as well.

Jobs For 15 Year Olds - Great Jobs Your Teen Will Appreciate!

It's summer time!

If you are 15, Do you have an idea on what jobs you are interested in already?

If you are a 15-year-old who wants a job and don't have any idea about what job you might look for, would you mind looking at teen jobs and earning extra money?

Jobs For 15 Year Olds - Great Jobs Your Teen Will Appreciate!

Yes, even you are just 15, you can still find summer jobs. Instead of going online to devote your time to playing video games for hours, why not do something profitable?

By doing this, you do not just earn, but you also learn at the same time.

From an employer's perspective, most employers won't hire a 15 year age, because of the limited availability of that age group, but several restaurants will make huge efforts to work with those age limits. Whenever you apply for ANY job, leave your attitude at the door about what you will and will not do for work. You'll have to prove what you can do before you start making demands.

You are asking for a job from a business owner. Dress appropriately for the job you are applying for. Good manners and courtesy will open a lot of doors.

Some of the people you ask for a job will ask you for references. Be prepared for that and check with your teachers, anyone in your church, coaches, people you did any casual labor for (even if it was to take care of their pets while they were away), friends, other parents who know you well.

Make sure you have their name, address and phone number on you if you are asked for references and also let them know that they may receive a phone call about you from a potential employer. Surprised references don't make good references.

Some of the most common ideas for summer jobs for 15 years old are listed here. There is one or two of these teen jobs that will match your interests. Read on, and enjoy the rest of the summer with the best summer jobs of your choice!

Check out these job opportunities for 15-year-olds:

• Offices - any offices where they need people to answer phones, file, greet customers, do office clean-up, or other generic office duties.

• Grocery stores where they want people to greet customers checking out and sack-up their groceries or carry bags to cars, bring back grocery carts from the parking lot, re-stock shelves...

• Retail stores often need summer sale help. Some even let you just work doing simple tasks like keeping aisles and shelves straightened.

• Restaurant s are great for hiring hostess and bus people at these ages. Re-think the McDonalds gig - you might be surprised how much you can buy with your own spending money.

• Hotels and lodges - especially if there are some nearby - are great opportunities to look for jobs because they have so many needs with a constant customer turnover.

• Are you a sports enthusiast? How about checking out your local amusement park, baseball park, stadium, or local soccer (hockey, football, basketball, etc... ) park - communities have park and recreation departments that would give you ideas.

• Plus, don't forget that often an athletic club hires teens to pick up towels (from the voice of experience coming at you - this is actually fun because the people there are fun and kind to you - they are glad to be in a gym).

• And don't forget golfing - miniature and driving ranges too.

• If you can get a work permit then you can get a job at a gas station - this was my very first job at 15-years-old and I loved being outdoors in the summertime and earning money!

• Work in other people's lawns. If you happen to have family members with large lawns or fields to mow and you visit them fairly often, you might want to take a look at working using a lawn mower. This summer job is so simple. You just have to make use of the equipment to trim the grass in the entire field. No matter how large the field may be, this job is still simple. You can ask for payment for every hour that you have worked for or the area which you have done mowing already. Can you trim hedges? Edge lawns? Add extra services to your poster or flyer so people ask you for those services and pay extra.

• If you work with a local car wash, you are paid for every hour you are on the job - some places even pay by the car. Or you can be your own business owner and start a corner car wash in your home carport - as long as you don't violate any city or county ordinances or rules where you live.

• Media - Often young journalists are needed to write in the teen sections for the media, teen magazines and even online bloggers need young writers to capture that market segment.

• Summer camps sometimes hire 15-year-olds as counselors - best to find out about these a year in advance, so if you missed it this year there is always next year! In the meantime you can get extra experience in the big brother-big sister programs at the YMCA and church groups.

• Can you teach someone something over the summer - How to pay guitar? How to speak Spanish? French? Are you good in math? If you can teach people, then be a tutor for people - or other kids your age - who want to learn or are struggling in school subjects and need your help.

There are several teen job options for you if you really want to earn money this summer. You do not need any additional studying or specific training to do well on these summer jobs. Just enjoy the fact that you are earning your own spending money.

When summer is over, you will definitely be proud of what you have achieved. If your boss wants other teens like you - share the opportunity with your friends and classmates.

Remember, though that a good referral for a hard worker gets you kudos, but a bad referral makes you look like a risk. So, be choosy with the people who you recommend to your boss - they are a direct reflection on you.
