Teen Acting Auditions - 10 Ways To Impress A Casting Director & Feel Good After The Audition

Have you ever gone into an audition and thought to yourself I should have come in better prepared? Every teen I know, who is involved in auditioning for theater, has voiced this to me over the years. There are some very simple procedures that will allow you to come out of every audition feeling as if you have done your best. From my experience, this is all an actor can expect of his or herself. It should be the focus of any audition you attend. Here are the ten things to keep in mind for that feel good experience after each audition. Make them a habit. Follow them each time and you will feel like a winner, whether or not you get the part.

Become familiar and learn a much as possible about the audition requirements before going to the audition, then practice, practice, practice. Choose age appropriate monologues and audition songs, if required.Make eye contact and greet the panel warmly as soon as you enter the audition room.Smile, relax and be yourself. If you are singing, go directly to the accompanist with your clearly marked music and if you need to instruct them as to the tempo, sing a few bars softly...do not snap your fingers.Introduce yourself and the material you will be performing in a confident, clear voice. Memorize the names of the composers or playwrights who authored your selections.Pause in between pieces, but practice before hand to stay within the allotted amount of time, if there is one. Be sure to understand the play from which a monologue or song is chosen in the event the director asks you questions about the show.Thank the panel when you finish your pieces, smile and pause briefly for any additional instructions from them, but do not linger in the room.

Keep in mind that every audition, in reality, is a job interview and that you are being observed from the minute you walk into the audition room. Take the opportunity each time to demonstrate not only your talent, but your personal characteristics. Let your personality shine through, and remember that the casting director and audition panel are not there to judge you harshly. They are there to do their job, which is to cast a show to the best of their ability. Learn to take auditioning in stride, as this is part of an actors life. If you decide to work professionally, it is something you will be experiencing for a long, long time. Take it seriously, but have some fun, too. Break a leg!

Beverly Stone has volunteered with a performing arts kids group for the past ten years. During this time she has worked in various capacities on the production of many shows but her main job has been to facilitate the training of the group's members. Many of these kids have gone on to become professionals, several of them are currently on Broadway. She recently decided to bring her knowledge online and created a Website and Blog which serves as a guide for kids and teens interested in singing, dancing and acting. She is dedicated to young people who are interested in training to work in professional theater by becoming "triple threats". [http://www.musical-theater-kids.com]

California Gold Rush for Kids

On January 24, 1848, James W. Marshall discovered gold in the American River, on the property of his employer John A. Sutter. Despite their efforts to keep this discovery quiet, news soon got out that there was gold in the hills of the River and by August of that year the hillside was covered with tents as men from around the globe, made their way to California to strike it rich.

This was no planned event. The Mexican War had only just been won and the Eastern Seaboard was in a state of financial depression. California Governor Richard Barnes Mason declared, "I have no hesitation now in saying, that there is more gold in the country drained by the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers than will pay the cost of the present war with Mexico a hundred times over." It seemed that the promise of gold was too good to pass up.

To begin with, men came from the West. They were already close by, and they were hard working honest and trusting men. Soon however, settlers began to make their way across the country from the East.

The gold attracted many outlaws with little respect for the law. Robbery, murder, and conflict with Indians and bandits became common. With the inability of local law enforcement to manage this influx of crime, vigilante groups and lynching became a common form of mob justice.

The journey from the East was a hazardous one, more men died of cholera than the feared Indians on that trek across the country. The hard journey however, prepared the men for the harsh conditions of working for the gold. Although there was good money to be made, the cost of living was also high. Few of the prospectors struck it rich, the wise ones become farmers or storekeepers.

The largest influx of settlers was in 1849 and hence the settlers were often referred to as "forty-niners". million dollars worth of gold was found in 1849. This rose to a peak of million in 1852. All in all, over billion dollars worth of gold was taken from the earth before mining became almost dormant.

Boot Camp For Children - The Perfect Therapy For Children With Misbehavior

Handling misbehavior in children is something very challenging for young parents. Seriously speaking, children's behavior is sometimes a mystery. Sometimes, we do not know what the young kids are thinking. We love our children very much and we are extremely upset and depressed when they misbehave. However, we can't use harsh way to punish them because it will make the situation worse. In order to make things change, we need to think positively. We need to find ways to overcome the "problem." One of the most effective ways I would like to suggest here is getting your beloved kids to participate in boot camp.

What is boot camp about?

In common, boot camps are intensive short-term programs for misbehaved children. These camps can be as short as a couple of weeks or as long as 3 months. Different camps are catered for different purposes. Some are meant for helping those at risk of social disorders. Some are meant for developing confidence and increasing self-esteem through extreme physical activities. Since there are so many types of camps available in the market, if you intend to send your children to attend one, you are reminded to obtain detailed information from the camp providers before you make your selection. For parents who are not sure which program works best for their children, they can talk to the counselor for professional advice.

These camps are helpful for parents because they help to control the children's impulsive behavior through a structured reward-punishment system. There is a wide variety of outdoor physical exercises used to facilitate the young kids. The main objective of this type of camp is to instill respect, responsibility and discipline among young kids. It helps to encourage movement, release energy, reduce stress and form healthy habits for a lifetime. For parents who are facing challenges with their misbehaved kids, they are highly recommended to get their children involved in the boot camps. The children who have gone through the exercises will be able to deal with frustration positively and they can also minimize their selfishness.

In some people's point of view, boot camps are full with fun and excitement. In fact, if you look from another angle, they are actually serious programs for kids and teens with "difficult" behaviors. The programs are well-designed to help the parents to take care of their children who are absolutely out of control. Researchers have found out that more than 75% of the participants of boot camps completed the programs successfully and they have shown great improvements on how they behave. In other words, the camps help to produce attitudinal changes in young children.

Dear parents, sometimes our life is full with stress. But we should not take children's misbehavior personally. Lying, hitting, stealing and other misbehaviors are regular parts of the maturation process for most children. Our beloved children need special attention. Especially for young kids, their ability to express themselves verbally may be limited. They may find it hard to communicate with adults when they are dissatisfied. We should handle all the situations with positive attitude. Do not blame yourself or your children for creating the problems. Be patient and observe the situations carefully. Make good use of the boot camps to assist you to overcome the issues.

How to Make a Model Volcano and Other Fun Kids Party Special Effects

Kids love magic tricks and special effects because they surprise and delight with the unexpected. Here's a collection of easy yet impressive special effects to try at your next kids party.

But beware... kids are naturally inquisitive, and will want to know how you achieved your spectacular results. Keep it mysterious, and you'll be the hit of the party crowd!

Erupting Volcano

How to Make a Model Volcano and Other Fun Kids Party Special Effects

Start by lining a box lid (edges should be about 2 inches high) with foil or use a large metal pan. Fill with wet sand. Place an empty soup can in the center and press the sand around the can to form your volcano mountain. For the best effect, completely conceal the can. Spoon 1/4 cup baking soda into the can and place the box on a surface protected with a plastic tablecloth or newspapers.

To erupt the volcano, pour a portion of the activation solution into the can. When this is added to the baking soda, it will make flowing "lava". Let your party guests take turns adding a bit of solution to the can to cause further eruptions.

Activation Solution - 1 cup water, 3/4 cup vinegar, 1/2 cup dishwashing liquid, 10 drops of red food coloring and 10 drops of yellow food coloring.

Volcano Cake

Make a bundt cake and frost it in chocolate frosting. Decorate with palm trees and small plastic dinosaurs: Before serving, take a pint of chocolate ice cream and place over the hole in the center of the cake. Pour strawberry syrup over it for volcano lava. Serve and enjoy!

Variation: Frost the cake white and use vanilla ice cream for a different look.

Spinning Vortex

Take two empty 2-liter bottles and fill one about one third with water. Put the bottle openings together, with the empty bottle upside down on top of the full one. Place a 3/8 inch metal washer in the opening between the two bottles and duct tape them together carefully.

When you're ready to make a vortex, reverse the bottles so the full one is on top. Swirl the top bottle in a circular motion until a spinning vortex begins to form in the water. It will continue until all the water has funneled through the washer and into the bottom bottle. Just reverse the bottles to create another vortex.

Party Punch with Pizzazz

Mix up a batch of one of the following party punches:

Smoldering Swamp Water

Mix equal parts Ice Cool Arctic Green Apple flavor Kool-Aid with ginger ale, or try any green beverage such as 7-UP.

Bubbling Love Potion

Mix equal parts cherry Kool-Aid & ginger ale for a colorful and fizzy love potion drink.

Here's where the fun starts...
Place a piece of dry ice in a sealed plastic container. Punch or cut holes in the container lid. Before serving drop the container into the punch bowl for a very cool effect!

Important: Always use caution when handling dry ice! Use tongs or heavy gloves so it does not touch bare skin as burn will result. Do not put the dry ice directly in the punch; it should NOT be ingested.

Frozen Hand

Fill an unpowdered surgical glove with water. Add green food coloring for a creepier look. Securely twist tie the end and hang from a shelf in the freezer. Once frozen, cut off the glove and float hand in your punch bowl for a nice "touch"!

Slime

Take a cup of water and add to it 1 Tbs. of borax (available in the laundry section of the grocery store). Stir until completely dissolved. Take 1/4 cup of white glue and 1/4 cup of water and mix thoroughly. In a ziploc bag, add equal parts of the borax solution to equal parts of the glue solution. A half cup of each will make a cup of slime. Add a couple drops of green food coloring. Seal bag and knead the mixture.

Fake Blood

Karo brand corn syrup

Red and blue food coloring

Milk

Add some red food coloring to the corn syrup, then just a drop or two of blue to get a more realistic dark color. Milk will make the blood appear more opaque and more realistic.

Note: This mixture is sticky and can stain clothes.

These cool special effects are perfect for a mad scientist party, a dinosaur party, a Halloween party... just use your imagination and have fun! They add a unique twist to any kids party and will make your child's special day a truly memorable event!
